Fun meeting to open 2024

Kendra led the group of us through a fun and spirited game of Rotary Jeopardy. This is the game that District Governor Patricia McCleese had intended for us to play during her recent visit to River Falls, but technical difficulties -- human error, actually -- prevented her from doing that. We made good use of the game last Tuesday, clearing the board. Kudos to Team 3, and it was reassuring that we weren't often too stumped to provide a correct question to the answer on the board.

Rotary Global Grant near Pune India

Ted Nesse from the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club spoke to our club about the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project for rural schools near Pune, India. According to the 2011 Census of India, Pune is the ninth-most populous city in India with a population of 3.1 million residents within the city limits and has a population of 7.2 million residents in the metropolitan region making it the eighth-most populous metropolitan area in India. But that doesn’t mean that the surrounding region has modern facilities.

Notice from the Long-Range Planning Department: There will not be a regular Rotary meeting on Tuesday March 5th. We are encouraging all who are interested to attend the State of the City breakfast at Tattersall, starting at 7:30 (you can even sleep in a little, unless you're Scot Simpson!).

We have open dates for speakers: As of now, we have one open (morning) speaker slot in February and one in March. After that, the schedule gets pretty open. Please contact Rick W, Linda, JW, or Tom with suggestions and contact information.

About the River Falls Social Club

Dr. Mark Nippoldt, a retired analytical chemist, spoke to Rotary about the River Falls Social Club (RFSC), which he created one year ago. The River Falls Social Club has over 500 followers on Facebook. There are no dues, no age limit, and no residency requirement. Since anyone can participate there is no specific number of members. The Social Club is designed so that there is likely something of interest for almost everyone. The activities of the club help people learn about our community and its many resources, both natural and human. The Social Club also creates activities to allow participants to enjoy the camaraderie of others who share similar interests.
