River Falls has a new Senior Living option at 745 Sycamore Street. Megan Harstad, the Outreach and Sales Director for The Sycamore of River Falls, spoke about how The Sycamore came to River Falls and what the new senior living center has to offer our community in terms of apartments, amenities, and nursing services.  She also briefly described the history of Ebenezer, the company behind The Sycamore.

The Sycamore opened in June of 2023. The Sycamore has several living options: Independent 55+, Assisted Living, and Memory Care. In addition to the apartments in the main building, it has 4 townhome rental units in two duplexes across the street from The Sycamore, allowing those renters use of The Sycamore’s facilities. The Sycamore has an “age in place” philosophy that enables residents to stay in their current apartment when they need additional care and services. The resident can remain in their original apartment and the services come to them.

The Sycamore offers a meal plan with chef-prepared meals for residents, or the residents can cook in their apartments and come to the dining room occasionally for a meal or to dine with guests. There are 84 units: 64 blended units from independent to assisted living and 16 secured Memory Care units. If half of a couple needs memory care and the other person is the caregiver, the caregiver can stay in their apartment and the person who needs memory care can go to the Memory Care unit for up to 4 hours a day to give the caretaker a break. Since The Sycamore is not licensed for adult daycare, Memory Care can’t take non-residents.

The apartments range from a studio to a two-bedroom with two bathrooms. The apartments have full-sized kitchens, a washer and dryer, a deck or patio and walk-in showers. There are 50 car stalls underground. There is also a movie room. Rent is month-to-month, and it includes all utilities including the Internet, cable TV, and land-line phone. Up to two pets are allowed per apartment. Housekeeping services are available and there are 12 Registered Nurses on staff. The Sycamore has a private dining room, community room, art studio, pub, fitness studio, salon, library and scheduled group transportation.

Ebenezer is a Lutheran-based non-profit company in Edina, Minnesota that has 60 such facilities nationally.
