Rotarian Amy Peterson, Community Development Director for the City of River Falls, provided an overview on the direction of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, the Outdoor Park and Recreation Plan, and the City’s Comprehensive Plan. These important policy documents, when implemented, will shape the future of River Falls. The vision for the Bicycle and Pedestrian plan is that “Walking and biking are comfortable modes of transportation that connect people of all ages and abilities to one another and to everyday destinations via safe, accessible infrastructure.” The completion of this project will reduce barriers to biking, make destinations accessible, promote health and wellbeing and foster tourism. It will make intersections and crossings safer, widen shoulders and buffer bike lanes.
The Outdoor Recreation plan uses data and maps to show where people live, where they will want to go and determines future growth patterns for the city including where we will need new parks in the future. Suggested improvements for outdoor recreation include new kayak launch sites, nature viewing areas, sensory gardens, natural playgrounds, all-abilities playgrounds, pollinator gardens, and educational stations.
Plans are forecasted to be adopted by the City Council the end of March 2023 and community feedback on the plans is encouraged through February.
