This summer, the RFGC is breaking ground on a new 15,000 squre foot facility, the “River Falls State Bank Center,” which will be home not only to the RFGC but also to the River Falls Wildcats gymnastics team. The new facility is directly east of the high school, north of the track. The new two-story facility was designed to be a state-of-the-art facility for all participants; a dedicated preschool area will serve participants as young as 18 months. Find out how you can help!
Curt and Julie Bruns are volunteers with the River Falls Gymnastics Club; Julie has been on the board for nearly ten years. Curt was involved with the effort to build the community ballpark in River Falls, and is excited to be helping the River Falls Gymnastics Club bring their vision to life. After sharing a short video, Julie talked about her involvement with the RFGC, noting that it was initially to support her own kids, but as they decided that they weren’t interested in gymnastics, she decided to stay involved.
The RFGC was established in 1979 at UWRF and moved to Meyer Middle School in 2003. It provides preschool, recreational, competitive, adapted and boys gymnastics. It also offers dance, camps, clinics, open gyms and birthday parties. It employs more than 30 coaches and staff. It is a volunteer-led 501c3 organization serving more than 500 gymnasts each week, more than 1,000 each year. About 50% of gymnasts are from River Falls, 15% from Hudson and 35% from the surrounding communities. It strives to not only share the love of gymnastics, but also encourage physical activity and encourage and support attributes that will help the gymnasts be successful later in life. As one ten year-old commented, “When I do gymnastics, I feel free! Like I can do anything!”
The River Falls Wildcats have competed in the state meet for the past 17 years, winning six state championships; the River Falls Gmnastics Club is proud to be a building block of that legacy. One thing that differentiates RFGC from other gymnastics programs in the area is that it doesn’t require kids to practice six days a week; the approach enables athletes to be involved with gymnastics and do other things, as well.
