Message from Linda Yde About Supporting Tools for School

The Club’s Board has approved participation in the Tools for School annual event.  For those of you not familiar with Tools for School, it is the distribution of school supplies to elementary, middle school and high school students in the River Falls school district.  These school supplies are donated by area churches.  Distribution of these supplies occurs in August (two-day event) at the First Congregational Church.

After volunteering at Tools for School in 2021, I thought it would be a great opportunity for Rotary to participate by donating a book to each student who takes part in Tools for School. Kari Owens and teachers from K-12 grades helped to create a list of popular books shared with Tony Pedriana and me. Tony has ordered all the books for our book giveaway. Since the number of students showing up on the day of school supply distribution varies from 320 to 400, Tony planned accordingly so we will have enough books to offer students. The books were ordered several months ago, and Tony has generously stored the books in his garage.

Originally, the Fifth Tuesday Project Committee (Karla Thoennes and Linda Yde) was going to have March 29, 2022, as our book labeling event at Ezekiel. (A label affixed to each book acknowledging that it is a gift from the River Falls Rotary Club.) However, it is much easier to bring the volunteers to the books than transporting 400+ books to Ezekiel.

Since many Rotarians are Rotary Readers on Tuesday mornings, we are asking volunteers to label books on Wednesday, March 30, at 9:00am at Tony Pedriana’s home, 2635 Golf View Drive. Six to eight volunteers should be able to easily handle this project.  Parking is somewhat limited, so we are requesting that volunteers meet at Ezekiel at 8:50am and carpool to Tony’s.  A sign-up sheet is available on ClubRunner.  If you are not comfortable using ClubRunner, text Linda Yde at 715-523-1195 and she will sign you up.
