About 20 of us gathered at Tattersall on Sunday July 5th a farewell to our Rotary exchange student Ulises Savilla Cortez. We were sorry to see him go, but we know his family will be happy for his return to Argentina.
School Forest Management Plan Project and Forest Restoration Course: Professor Kevyn Juneau's class at UWRF did a project where 3 teams did on-site research at the River Falls School Forest. Your Tidings editor was at the School Forest Steering Committee meeting where the 3 teams presented, and Lydia's team was outstanding. She told us about the project, showed her teams plan, process, analysis and recommendations. She also talked about what the teams learned from the process, and how it can be used in the future. Living Vicariously Through Our Exchange Student! Uli has been out west with the Rotary exchange students experiencing the west coast year-end trip. They've been to places like the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and now Disneyland. From the photos taken at Disney, it's clear he's enjoying himself.
With the last meeting of George's year as president behind us, we recognized his leadership and effort in guiding the club through 2025-26 with a 5:01 and dinner at Junior's. When you see George, thank him for his efforts on our behalf -- and feel free to remind him that we need his input and guidance as past president and in the future!
The Presentation: What did the River Falls area look like 250 years ago? The River Falls Historic Preservation Commission will install a display at the River Falls Library next week that takes a look at the region in 1776, long before the city of River Falls existed. Jayne gave us a preview of her research that examines the geology that shaped the landscape, the Dakota and Ojibwe peoples who lived in and traveled through the area, and what was happening in Wisconsin and across North America at the time. St. Croix Valley Food Bank Open House: On Wednesday September 16th, the SCV Food Bank is having an open house to show off the impressive-looking new building along northbound Highway 35. The flyer, which you can see by clicking READ MORE notes that the event is outdoors in a tent on an active construction site. It says "Please dress accordingly and wear appropriate footwear".
